An appeal has been made to men not to feel threatened by women’s participation in politics but rather relate as partners and not competitors.
Hon Olamide Falana, Special Adviser to the Governor of Ondo State on Gender made this call at a technical session organized to commemorate Ondo FIDA (International Federation of Women Lawyers) Week 2022 held in Akure, Ondo State capital.
Speaking on the theme ‘Increasing Women and Youth Participation in Politics’ she adjured men to accept women as a complementary factor to jointly achieve the same goal for social development.
‘Take marriage, for instance, men and women come together in love to birth beautiful children, male and female, that’s co-creation. Women can’t birth babies alone likewise men, we both need each other. That’s why men must see us as partners, let’s co-create and cooperate, let’s do things together, we should complement each other
The Governor’s aide who is a member of the panel on the technical session also doubles as the Chairman, representing the Secretary to Ondo State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu. She noted that the source of violence, abuse, emotional trauma and family disintegration at the home front is mostly traceable to men who see women as competitors.
She however enjoined women to sustain the increase in women participation politically stressing that nothing should be a barrier in their political pursuit.
Female professionals, successful in their diverse beats were also charged to employ their wealth of experience in Human, Resource and leadership Management in steering the leadership wheel of Governance.
The Ondo 2022 FIDA Week with the theme ‘Women & Sustainable National Development: Practical Solutions to Gender Based Violation’ was well attended by members of the Association as well as stakeholders from relevant fields.
